A Little More Context

Hey folks! Earlier this year, one of my students approached me asking how she might go about organising a fundraiser. See, she lost her mum to pancreatic cancer a few years ago, and in her final year at Frankston High, was hoping to organise a World’s Greatest Shave-style event to raise funds for PanKind.

PanKind does some incredible work, providing practical support to people and families affected by pancreatic cancer, while also investing in medical research to better understand the disease and improve outcomes for those affected.

While we hit a few speedbumps along the way, it’s been pretty special watching this student keep on keeping on, turning something so deeply personal into an opportunity to make a difference for others. And, to cut a long story short (pun intended), tomorrow’s the big day!

We managed to organise three volunteer hairdressers to help out, and while I won’t be shaving my head, I will be participating in a “Chop for Change” alongside this student and her peers who are taking this big leap for such an important cause.
