My Mum

In Honour of Fifi – Supporting Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

My mum, Fifi, is someone you never forget.

She’s got a cheeky sense of humour, a deep love for her family, and some classic habits that make her who she is—like needing her meals right on time, never throwing anything out (especially clothes), and always asking for a coffee the second you walk through the door. That’s just Mum.

Recently, our world changed when she was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

It’s a cruel and aggressive cancer that often shows no signs until it’s already advanced. That’s exactly what happened to us. There are so few early detection tools, and funding for research and treatment is shockingly low. But through everything, Mum has stayed true to herself. She’s still making us laugh, still asking Addi where her tea is, still telling us her favourite stories—even the ones we’ve heard a thousand times.

This fundraiser is for her. And it’s also for every family that’s been hit with a diagnosis like this.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers, but it gets some of the least attention. It doesn’t fight fair. And we want to change that. We want more research. Better detection. More support. More time.

Fifi’s life has been filled with stories—from her childhood in Brunswick after migrating from Cyprus at five years old, to raising a family in Oak Park, working at the tax office (which she still talks about like it was yesterday), and helping out in the school canteen with her wild friend Gina. (Let’s be honest, between them, I probably got more free lunches than I should have.)

Now she’s a proud Yaya to Addi and baby Ash. Addi was lucky enough to get two beautiful years of cuddles, tea-making duties, and endless love. And even though Ash is just a baby, we’ll make sure he knows exactly who his Yaya was.

Please consider donating, sharing, or just reading up on pancreatic cancer. Every little action helps us move closer to earlier diagnoses, more options, and more time with the people we love.

For Fifi. For families. For hope.
